New veterans recognition program proposed by the North Georgia Veterans

Phil Anderson presented the new veterans recognition program at the February NGV luncheon.

A modified deceased veterans tribute program has been developed by the North Georgia Veterans (NGV) for presentation to the newly seated 2020 POA Board of Directors. NGV members are asking for community support of the new program that if passed would be implemented at the May 25, 2020 Veterans Day.

The initial program, which called for cross-shaped markers like those used by other communities in North Georgia, was rejected due to possible religious overtones. The new program includes vinyl banners

A PowerPoint presentation of the new program is available at www.ngvets.org. The new program calls for 18” x 36” color, reinforced banners to be placed initially on Lake Petit Dam three times a year. The banners “in keeping with the character of Big Canoe” would cost $150 and include a photo of the deceased veteran.

The presentation was shared with the membership attending the February NGV luncheon by Phil Anderson, and an FAQ document published on the NGV website was started using feedback from the meeting. A video is also available on the NGV website.

More information and feedback forms can be found at www.ngvets.org. More information about the banners can be found at https://militarytributebanners.org/
